A hitchhikers guide to free Oracle tuning tools
Limited Capacity seats available

Instance and SQL tuning with EM12c Cloud Control is so easy, it is not even much fun anymore. Also, not every customer may have the appropriate license or database edition, or all you have available remotely is a command-line login to a database.
This presentation showcases a few open-source database tuning tools such as Snapper and ASH replacements that DBAs can use to gather and review metrics and wait events from the command line and even in standard edition.
This is done by dissecting the familiar performance pages in EM12c, explaining the underlying statistics and showing how similar observations can be made in other tools.

Becoming a Multitenant DBA
Limited Capacity seats available

Oracle Multitenant option allows you consolidate multiple databases into a single one. But most DBAs find the idea of managing a multitenant environment daunting. In this session you will learn what the speaker—a real word DBA user—did to be a DBA in a multitenant environment and used the tools, features and techniques always used--backup/recovery using RMAN, ASM, security, RAC, Data Guard, Cloud Control, EM Express and everything else. As this session will explain, there is little change to your understanding to manage a multitenant database—both as a CDBA and a PDBA.

Value to the Customer

Many customers often find multitenant concepts hard to understand and are concerned about the compatibilities of the tools they are familiar with. This session aims to quash those concerns.

The multitenant architecture was "the" headline feature announced in Oracle Database 12c. On the surface pluggable databases sounds great, but are they really? This presentation will explain the parts of your systems that will break if you move to pluggable databases, but why you should probably use them anyway.

Engineered Data Protection for Oracle Databases: Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery ApplianceOracle Storage – ZDLRA
Limited Capacity seats available

Today’s stand-alone backup and recovery treats your database as a generic file, while you bear the burden of system integration and are still left guessing about your recoverability.  It’s time for new data center architectures that streamline your infrastructure and ensure deep integration between your backup/recovery system and Oracle Database so you can confidently recover, especially when you need it most.  Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance is an engineered system, purpose-built by Oracle’s database development team for Oracle Database protection.   It redefines database backup and recovery - taking the guesswork out of protecting databases and delivering unmatched recovery advantages, including the ability to recover data to the last sub-second without impacting production resources.  In this session, you will be challenged to take a hard look at how one-size-fits-all data protection is working for your Oracle Databases, and to assess whether an engineered approach to Database backup and recovery is in order.

Secure Your Database in a Single Day
Limited Capacity seats available

Implementing database security in today's insecure world is not just a challenge for newly started; but for veterans as well. It's a delicate balance between the need to apply CPU patches and the inevitable downtime. In this session attendees will learn some simple but highly effective steps they can implement in just one day that will eliminate a lot of vulnerability and make the database secure against 90% of the common attacks. All the concepts will be explained with the cause of the vulnerability and how it can be sealed with the relatively simple techniques available with the Oracle database, some with live demos. The knowledge comes to aid of those who plan of complaint with PCI, SOX and GLBA requirements.

WebLogic 12c: What You Need to Know
Limited Capacity seats available

This presentation is based on the most successful, long-running, and independent WebLogic 12c presentation at Oracle World. In 2015 over two hundred attendees signed up for it!

Oracle likes to emphasize that there are more than 200 new features in Oracle WebLogic Server 12c. This session takes a different approach and presents only the key reasons that make it worth using the latest Oracle WebLogic Server 12c. The features presented in this session are technical—derived from attendees’ questions in many hands-on workshops—without any sales pitch and somehow subjective. Also, if limitations exist, they will be mentioned.

Everything that makes upgrading to the latest Oracle WebLogic Server 12c worth it will be covered, including core features, important changes, and Oracle WebLogic Server running in a Docker container.

Don't Develop - Compose your Mobile Application Easily with Oracle Mobile Cloud Service
Limited Capacity seats available

Mobile applications has become a bit of buzz. Businesses want them, but someone in IT has to build them and in many cases that means new skills, multi-platform development effort and the maintenance and management headache of 3rd party platform SDKs such as Android Studio and XCode. But what if mobile development was as simple as assembling data aware pages. No code, no IDE, no installation, no mobile platform skills. This presentation shows how mobile development has discovered a new option: the simple way.

Docker in the Oracle Universe

This presentation covers the possibly hottest topic in DevOps in since 2015: Docker.

Docker and Oracle seem like a marriage of fire and ice, or free and constantly changing open source versus licensed enterprise software.

Docker containers are open source, low overhead, can be started in milliseconds. Containerized applications can be run without changes on premise as well as in most public clouds such as AWS and GCE.

In this presentation we review the underlying fundamentals of Docker, the command-line interface, and explain typical usage patterns. Advanced Docker concepts such as Docker Compose, Docker Machine, Docker Swarm, and native Docker on Solaris, Windows or Mac OS are explained.

Then we look at the role of Docker in the Oracle ecosystem of products. We cover WebLogic 12c on Docker which is officially certified by Oracle since March 2015. Also the Oracle Docker cloud service will be reviewed.

An earlier version of this presentation received a lot of positive feedback at the northern leg of OTN Latin America tour last year. This presentation also includes some demos!
